The root is the folder on your FTP server where a project lives - and it is a perimeter SyncNow never crosses.
When you add a project, you tell SyncNow where it sits on the server. Everything inside that root is watched; everything outside it is invisible. SyncNow will not wander up into sibling folders or look at the rest of the account - the fence holds in both directions.
Why a perimeter helps
- Focus: the timeline reflects this project only, with no noise from unrelated files.
- Privacy: SyncNow cannot see parts of the server you did not point it at.
- Safety: the same root anchors the structural guards used during AI work sessions - writing outside the root is blocked.
Good to know
Since observation is read-only anyway, the perimeter is not about preventing damage during a normal check - it is about keeping each project clean, contained and trustworthy. If a project's listing looks wrong, the root setting is the first thing to confirm.
